Sonic 2 Master System ROM - Unused Sprites & Objects
Heavy shoe monitor:
Looks like the speed shoe, only it's grey instead of red. It was probably a "power-down", making Sonic run more slowly (this is just a guess, however).
Question mark monitor:
Probably a monitor whose contents are unknown to the player, or perhaps random.
Restart point monitor:
There's a similar monitor in the GG/SMS version of Sonic 1. It lets you restart halfway through the level after you die, instead of right back at the beginning of the level.
Running Sonic monitor:
This one's a total mystery.
Beta title screen:
It lacks Sonic and Tails. Also, the regular title screen pallete doesn't work, so I had to recolour it myself.
Boss - Underground Zone:
The boss itself isn't unused, but you don't normally get to see its lower half, you only see its head and pincers.

Loop-the-loop - Underground Zone:
Tiles would have been used for a loop, like in Aqua Lake and Green Hills Zones

Various tiles - Underground Zone:
A few tiles, not used in the game.
Rolling boulder - Sky High Zone:
Probably would've rolled down a slope, hurting Sonic.
Water slide - Aqua Lake Zone:
Diagonal water block. The blue part of the pallete would "cycle".

Level tiles - Green Hills Zone:
These tiles came from data used in the ending sequence (although they're not themselves used in the end sequence). Leftovers from the original GHZ, with the white-and-grey squared theme.
Block - Scrambled Egg Zone:
Unused little block.
Tails smiling and crying - Crystal Egg Zone:
These sprites are loaded after you beat Robotnik and Tails appears, but they're not used.
Title card - Mountain Zone:
Title card for a lost level, Mountain Zone. Unfortunately, there's no little preview pic (hence the black rectangle).
Numbers 0-5:
Small yellow numbers.
Numbers 0-9:
Same style as the text on the pre-level title card, with the tiny scrolling GHZ inside the letters.
