Sonic X - Episode 2 Transcript:
"Infiltrate! Area 99"

CHRIS:
Are you OK?

SONIC:
Yeah, thank you.

CHRIS:
You...you can talk?

SONIC:
Of course.

CHRIS:
Wow, you can really talk! I-I'm Chris! And-and what's your name?

SONIC:
I'm Sonic...
Sonic the Hedgehog.

Episode 2:
Infiltrate! Area 99

---------------------------------------------

Next morning, Chris is standing on a balcony, talking to someone on the phone. Sonic is sitting on the roof above.

WOMAN ON PHONE:
I'm sorry. It's been raining, so filming has been held up a bit. It doesn't look like I'll be home by next week after all. I'm sorry about the change. But I sent you a present by airmail.

CHRIS:
Yeah?

WOMAN ON PHONE:
It's that cotton candy that you like!

CHRIS:
Thank you! Um...mom...To be honest, there's something I have to apologize for.

MOTHER:
Oh? What?

CHRIS:
That promise I made to you... About not going out past 12 o'clock? And not going into the adult pool?

MOTHER:
You were swimming at that hour?

CHRIS:
No, it's not that. A cat nearly drowned and I had to help it.

MOTHER:

Sonic jumps down onto the balcony.

SONIC:
When you said "cat," did you mean me?

CHRIS:
Uh...yeah. Are you angry? If I'd said "hedgehog," she probably wouldn't have understood.

SONIC:
What do you mean?

CHRIS:
Well, a hedgehog is much smaller. Maybe...about this size, at most.

SONIC:
You're kidding!

CHRIS:
You're really special! Your size...and you can talk! Hey, when...where did you learn to speak?

Sonic scratches his head.

SONIC:
Well...I can't remember stuff from that long ago.

CHRIS:
Really?

The phone rings.

Hello? Dad!

FATHER:
Hey, Chris? I just heard from your mother. She said a cat got into the pool during the night? Sorry about that, Chris. A cat shouldn't be able to get by the security so easily.

CHRIS:
Nah, don't worry about it. I'm alright. I scared it away pretty quickly. When I glared at it, it got scared and ran away!

FATHER:
Is that right?

CHRIS:
And besides, I have Grampa here. And there's Mr. Tanaka, too. And dad, you're probably really busy, aren't you?

FATHER:
Yeah. Very.

CHRIS:
So you don't need to worry. I'm doing fine.

FATHER:
Really? Well, in that case, I'll say goodbye now. I love you.

CHRIS:
I love you too, dad. Bye. Well, what should we do for your breakfast? What do you usually eat?

SONIC:
What do hedgehogs here eat?

CHRIS:

Chris hands Sonic a bowl of brown mush. He tastes a bit, and looks disgusted.

SONIC:
Yech, what the heck is this stuff?!

CHRIS:
Cat food.

SONIC:

CHRIS:
Um, well I heard that there's hedgehog food too, but it said that cat food would be okay. And things like dried crickets.

Sonic hits the bowl out of Chris's hand and jumps away.

Where do you think you're going?

SONIC:
Sorry, but I'm a gourmet eater!

CHRIS:
No, you shouldn't go outside!

SONIC:
See ya!

CHRIS:
Hey, wait! Wait Sonic!

Later, Sonic and Chris are watching TV. Sonic is eating some food.

NEWS REPORTER (ON TV):
Because of the extreme speed, it might be difficult to understand what you're seeing here. We attempted to gather eyewitness accounts.

POLICE OFFICER (ON TV):
It was about this size, and blue. It looked like a hedgehog.

MAN IN CAR #1 (ON TV):
It went right by me like "wooosh!"

MAN IN CAR #2 (ON TV):
I'm not exaggerating. The thing might have been going at Mach speed.

SCIENTIST (ON TV):
As for the so-called "U-M-A" If the question is, "Was it...some kind of Unidentified Mysterious Animal?" The answer is "No." Because, among the animals, the cheetah is the fastest of all but it still cannot run faster than a car. There shouldn't be any animals capable of running at that speed...

CHRIS:
Is it good?

SCIENTIST (ON TV):
....rather I think it would be appropriate to ask whether it is some kind of machine, instead.

SONIC:
I guess it's okay.

Chris's grandfather, Chuck, walks into the room.

CHUCK:
Did you hear, Chris? They said some kind of mysterious machine appeared and defeated the S-Team!

Chuck notices Sonic. Chris tries to hide him by smothering him with a pillow.

SONIC:
Hey! What are you doing Chris?! Hey!!

Sonic pushes the pillow away and disgruntledly folds his arms.

CHUCK:
Blue...and looked like a hedgehog...

Chuck grabs Sonic.

SONIC:
Whoah, hey!!

CHUCK:
Now, I wonder how...

Chuck jabs Sonic with a screwdriver.

SONIC:
Stop!!

CHUCK:
Sit still!

CHRIS:
Um...Grampa...He-Sonic isn't a machine.

Chuck looks shocked and drops the screwdriver.

CREAM (ON TV):
Please stay away. I'm so scared. Please stay away.

Cream and Cheese are sitting on an "Ice Express International Logistics" banner, surrounded by police and reporters.

SONIC:
Cream and Cheese!

CHRIS:
Friends of yours?

SONIC:
So it wasn't just me who came to this weird world! All right, I'm comin'!

Sonic sprints out of the door.

CHRIS:
Do you even know where that place is?

Sonic skids to a halt and runs back to the door, then shrugs. A short time later, they're in the garage and Chuck is talking to someone on the phone.

CHUCK:
You've been a big help. Thanks. Sometime let's get together for lunch.

He puts the phone down.

It looks like they were transferred from the police to Area 99.

CHRIS:
Area 99? Isn't that the army research facility?

SONIC:
Army?

CHRIS:
Yeah, the National Defense Force. They have tanks, jet fighters, weapons...

SONIC:
These guys sound like Eggman.

CHUCK:
She must have been taken to the army's facility because they wanted to examine her thoroughly. Is she an alien that came from outer space? Or are they thinking she's some kind of animal weapon that was developed by another country? What's the real story, eh?

SONIC:
I have no idea. Well, now that I know where she is, I'm outta here.

CHRIS:
If you do something like that, you're going to get caught!

SONIC:
I'm not gonna screw up like that.

Sonic begins to walk out but the garage door closes in front of him.

What's the big idea?

CHRIS:
Don't look at me!

CHUCK:
I did it. Somehow, that sounds really interesting. I'm excited!

CHRIS:
Grampa!

CHUCK:
You're going too. Haven't you always been saying that you didn't want to be a boring guy like your dad?

CHRIS:
That-that's a secret! Don't tell dad I said that!

CHUCK:
I won't.

Chuck, Chris and Sonic are driving along a desert road in Chuck's car.

SONIC:
I'm never riding in a slow old bucket like this again. Sheesh!

CHUCK:
Now, now.

CHRIS:
This is it, right?

CHUCK:
That's it.

Chris hands Sonic a hi-tech looking headset.

CHRIS:
Put it on.

SONIC:
What's this?

CHUCK:
It's an infrared scope. The interior of Area 99 might be covered with infrared sensor traps. But if you wear that, you should be able to see them.

SONIC:
Thank you! Well, see you up ahead!

Sonic jumps out of the car and runs ahead to Area 99.

CHUCK:
Whoah. He's faster than anything I've ever seen! All right!

Meanwhile, in Area 99, a scientist puts his eye to a scanner to get into the lab where Cream and Cheese are being held in a glass tank.

COMPUTER:
ID Number F219563 - Matched.

CREAM:
Please let us out of here! Wha-what is that? What are you going to do with us?

Back outside, Sonic is running along the road and Chris talks to him via the headset.

CHRIS:
Can you hear me Sonic?

SONIC:
Yeah!

CHRIS:
Once you get inside, head for the ventilation shaft. Once you're in there, you should be in one of the security's blind spots.

SONIC:
All right!

CHRIS:
But...do you know where they're being held?

CHUCK:
Of course I do!

Chuck grabs Chris's headset and talks to Sonic.

If you head for a place that looks suspicious, then you'll undoubtedly find the room you're looking for.

CHRIS:
Wha-That's a pretty vague answer!

SONIC:
I'll find it somehow!

Sonic arrives at Area 99 and leaps over the security fence, and then down a ventilation shaft.

SONIC:
I'm in the vent!

CHRIS:
Roger!

SONIC:
Jeez, this is down pretty deep. Now for--

He notices laser beams crossing the ventilation shaft.

Some blind spot!

CHRIS:
What did you say?

SONIC:
Nothing.

Sonic looks down into a corridor through a grid at some slow-moving security cameras.

They only move that much?

He jumps down into the corridor and dashes through, always staying out of the cameras view.

Piece of cake! All right. Now!

In the Area 99 control centre...

COMPUTER:
Resuming confirmation procedure. Resuming confirmation procedure.

Chuck stops the car as Area 99 comes into view.

CHRIS:
I wonder if he's all right?

In the lab, scientists are looking at the results of a scanner being used on Cream and Cheese.

CREAM:
I-I'm scared.

Sonic arrives at the lab door.

SONIC:
I wonder if this is suspicious enough, but how am I going to get inside? It's okay if it's just me but I have Cream and Cheese with me. Is it going to be too difficult?

The lights suddenly go out.

COMPUTER:
High Beam system - Malfunction. High Beam system - Malfunction.

STAFF MEMBER #1:
What happened?

STAFF MEMBER #2:
I can't see a thing!

The scientists hear glass smashing.

STAFF MEMBER #3:
What??

STAFF MEMBER #4:
What was that?

Sonic, Cream and Cheese are hiding in a corner.

CREAM:
Soni-!

CHEESE
Chao! Chao chao chao chao!

STAFF MEMBER #5:
Who's there?

SONIC:
We're gettin' outta here!

CREAM:
Alright!

They run out of the lab. Meanwhile, technicians are investigating the malfunction and find some tiny paper aeroplanes have damaged all the power cables.

MAIN TECHNICIAN:
Paper airplanes? That's stupid- Who on Earth...? Forget it. Hurry with the repairs!

ALL TECHNICIANS:
Yes sir!

Sonic and Cream are running down a corridor. The cameras are also not working.

CREAM:
Did you do this too?

SONIC:
Nope, wasn't me! It just happened on its own.

CREAM:
You always seem to have good luck Sonic.

SONIC:
You think so?

The lights come back on and the cameras spring into action.

CREAM:
I'm sorry. I think it's because I said something bad.

SONIC:
It's not your fault.

Lasers appear on the cameras.

Shit! Let's go!

CREAM:
Yes!

The lasers start shooting.

Back outside...

CHRIS:
Sonic! What's wrong? All you all right?

SONIC:
Don't worry about me!

Sonic lets go of Cream's hand.

Run!

He jumps up and starts smashing the cameras.

You have to run!

CREAM:
Right!

COMPUTER:
Closing off corridors.

Security doors start shutting. A door starts to close in the corridor ahead of where Cream is running.

CREAM:
It's closing!

Sonic jumps down, picks up Cream and runs under the door just as it closes. They end up in another laser-camera filled corridor. A swarm of little paper planes appears.

What are those?

The planes destroy all the cameras.

What's happening?

SONIC:
I dunno but now's our chance!

COMPUTER:
Numerous unidentified objects. Numerous...unidentified...

STAFF MEMBER #6:
We've lost control of the laser surveillance cameras!

The laser-cameras start shooting randomly.

CREAM:
Sonic, did you do this too?

SONIC:
I said, I haven't done anything!

They're running up some stairs. A laser beam slices through the stairs, and the stairs drop away causing Cream to fall, but Sonic catches her hand. The lasers cut away the stairs ahead of them too, trapping them on a small section of stairs. Sonic picks Cream up and leaps up to some stairs above them, just as the lasers slice through the stairs they were standing on.

We'll be okay from here on out - maybe. That was pretty scary, huh?

CREAM:
No. Thank you Sonic!

SONIC:
It was nothing!

Sonic hears an aeroplane.

That sound... An airplane? Well!

Outside, Tails is in the Tornado.

TAILS:
I wonder if it's this area here...

He sees Sonic jump out of the roof carrying Cream. Tails swoops down and they land on the wing.

Perfect!

CREAM:
So it was Tails all along!

TAILS:
Hang on tight so you don't fall off.

Chuck and Chris see the Tornado.

CHUCK:
Well, shall we pull out?

Back at the garage...

CHRIS:
I'm Chris. Sonic and I just became friends yesterday.

TAILS:
I'm Tails. Sonic and I are always together. Right Sonic?

SONIC:
I suppose.

CREAM:
I'm Cream. And this is my friend, Cheese. Pleased to meet you.

CHRIS:
Well, I'm pleased to meet you too. It looks like we can be good friends. And, this is my grandfather.

CHUCK:
Amazing. I've never seen such tiny radio-controlled airplanes.

TAILS:
They're really nothing special.

CHRIS:
But, that was really crazy! You went up against the army! That might've turned into a war!

SONIC:
Well, what are you gonna do?

CHRIS:
That's not really what I was saying.

CHUCK:
Now, this is really something! Where did you get this kind of science and technology?

TAILS:
"Where?" I can only tell you that it's from my world.

CHUCK:
And that world is -- where?

TAILS:
Hmm..where...space-time was distorted and we were brought to this world.

CHRIS in the background while Tails and Grampa talk:
Sonic, are you listening? And I even told you it it was dangerous before you did it! It turned out all right this time, but- Are you listening at all? Sonic? Sonic!

CHUCK:
Interesting...very interesting.

CHRIS:
Honestly!

TAILS:
Hey Sonic, who was involved in the accident? You, me, Cream and Cheese were there. Do you think everyone else might have come to this world too?

SONIC:
Well, there was Knuckles, Amy, and...

ALL FURRIES:
Doctor Eggman!!

Meanwhile, Eggman's base is on an island. Eggman is watching the ocean on a TV screen.

EGGMAN:
So I came to this world thanks to the Chaos Control. Well, that's fine. I'll build the foundation of the Eggman Empire on this world. And then expand my territory to other worlds!
